AI Musings Over the Years

I think about AI a lot.
I recently went through my AI notes folder, and it struck me that I have not only been on a journey of learning, but also one of trying to find a place to land in the midst of all this change.

2023
When I started learning about AI, I was fascinated by how it worked.
The idea that machine learning is akin to neural networks in our brain. The same way that neuroplasticity allows us to create new neural pathways, AI can make new connections, too.

Then, I started thinking about the existential questions that AI raises. Are we in the midst of a technological zeitgeist that will reshape our human intelligence?

2024
As is true to my nature, I fell back on the spiritual wisdom that gives me peace when things feel turbulent, trying to understand what my role is and how to show up.

To quote Clarissa Pinkola EstΓ©s, "Do not lose heart. We were made for these times."

2025
Then I regressed. πŸ˜… I learned about AGI and the way the AI overlords are betting against humanity to further enrich themselves by building towards it.

2026
Then I regressed further when I learned about the Swiss Cheese Model, that catastrophic failures happen when multiple, separate safeguards all fail at once... which felt (and still feels) particularly relevant in the arms race to develop AI.

While there is (clearly) no story arc here, this just reminded me that we are all in the messy middle of trying to figure this out... one rambling note at a time. πŸ˜†
