Christian Principles Framework
University of Notre Dame just received a $50.8 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to develop an AI ethics framework based on Christian principles.
The grant will fund the DELTA Network: a faith-based approach to AI ethics.
DELTA: Dignity, Embodiment, Love, Transcendence, Agency
Both fascinating and complicated.
On one hand, we need ethical frameworks for AI that aren't driven purely by profit motives or efficiency metrics.
On the other hand, are we at risk of repeating history where one religious viewpoint aims to universally determine what constitutes ethics (shaping the foundation of this emerging technology and all that comes after)?
I don't have an answer, but it certainly poses new philosophical and existential questions that mirror the gravity of the moment that we are living in.
