People Power
People power.
When I started leaning into AI in 2023, I wanted to build a tool to streamline the grants process (and this was before vibe coding!).
But I hit a wall — and I now realize I was way too early.
Philanthropy wasn't ready for a complete overhaul in how it moves money. And it still isn't.
Why? Because there's a huge gap in AI knowledge and skills — a lack of understanding of how we can use AI meaningfully in our work.
So I pivoted. I moved into AI education and training, with a biweekly newsletter and speaking and consulting engagements, to help us level up.
Because the AI revolution will be powered by people. Until we have the knowledge, skills, and agency to use these tools intentionally, we'll stay stagnant—or worse, fall behind.
So it's my mission to build AI literacy in this sector before building the tools to support it.
It was a hard lesson to learn, but I'm starting to see it clearly: without people, AI is just technology without a purpose.
