Blackbaud’s Copilot Integration

Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge new integration with Microsoft Copilot lets users query their donor database without logging in to Raiser's Edge.

A potential time saver for sure, but before you jump in head first, this is a perfect way to start a conversation with your vendors about AI and data.

Questions that you might ask:

1️⃣ Where does the data actually go? Does this integration work as a Copilot connector (like an MCP) that pulls data into your Microsoft tenant?

2️⃣ Is any data surfaced through this integration (like donor records, giving histories, prompts, or responses) used to train or improve any AI model, Blackbaud's or Microsoft's?

3️⃣ Does the integration inherit Raiser's Edge's existing permission levels, or does it rely on Microsoft 365 permissions instead?

4️⃣ Could this integration expose donor data to staff who have Microsoft 365 Copilot access but don't have Raiser's Edge access?

5️⃣ Where do prompts and responses involving donor data get logged? Who has access to view that activity log?

6️⃣ Is there a way to see, organization-wide, every place donor data has been surfaced outside Raiser's Edge through this integration?

It's important to start understanding data more holistically now that AI is in the picture -- not only about training AI models, but also about potential security risks when data is flowing from one system to another.
