Existential AI Questions

I've been thinking a lot about the future and AI lately, so forgive me for getting a bit existential.

AI has the potential to transform how philanthropy operates, and at the same time, AI will restructure the economic conditions that determine who needs social services.

Imagine it's 2036 and the wage economy as we know it is unrecognizable. The need for social supports has exploded -- and philanthropy is still operating at a 5% ceiling of giving with 3-6 month grant cycles.

Not because the money isn't there, but because philanthropy is deciding today to double-down on gatekeeping and invite-only grant cycles... unable to handle the surge in AI-assisted grant proposals.

Instead of taking a step back to analyze the long-term implications of AI, not only in their day-to-day work but also on society at large, philanthropy is making a decision to preserve the status quo.

Until a mob shows up at their door.
