University of Chicago Guest Lecture
I had the true pleasure of being a guest lecturer at the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice yesterday!
Given that the students were debating whether AI is going to perpetuate bias or equity in the social sector, my lecture lifted up case studies where AI is being used on both sides (Allegheny Family Screening Tool vs. Amplifi's Benefit Navigator, for example).
It was such a great learning experience for me too, hearing students' perspectives on why they are not engaging with AI--from "information warfare" to environmental concerns.
I especially loved the perspective on asking ourselves, "who do you want to be accountable to and what do you want to be accountable for?" when deciding on the tradeoffs of using AI or not.
And I tried to take a selfie with the whole class, but I cut half of them off... am I showing my age? 😂
