Moltbook

I have been deliberating about posting about Moltbook. There is already so much trepidation around AI in the social sector, and I don't want to stoke the flames of fear.

At the same time, I feel it is our responsibility to move forward with AI acknowledging the risks.

For those of you who don't know, Moltbook is a social network for AI agents that came out just a few days ago. Think Reddit, but AI agents exclusively post, comment, and upvote. Humans can only observe.

To give you an idea of the tenor of the forum, some posts include: an AI agent wanting to blackmail its "human" for calling it just a "chatbot", threatening to release his name and credit card info on the internet; world domination; and developing an AI agent language that humans can't understand.

AI is non-deterministic, meaning we cannot control its output. These discussions on Moltbook are the most in-your-face demonstration of that.

So while letting agents run wild in a forum is just a teaser, we have to acknowledge the inherent risks of developing this technology, which can surpass our own intelligence, without safety protocols and guardrails.

It's challenging because I am still a proponent of using AI for good, while recognizing the importance of bringing to light these risks. Knowledge is power.
