In February, I am kicking off a series to highlight ways that AI can be used for good.
Today, I am highlighting The Nature Conservancy Canada and they ways they are using AI to accelerate environmental conservation, helping them determine where to focus their efforts and which conservation action works best in a given situation:
AI helps to identify areas of high biodiversity for preservation.
AI helps to analyze satellite images to understand land cover in a place that may not be accessible.
As environmental preservation becomes ever-more urgent, AI applications can help with:
Streamlining data analysis.
Facilitating informed decisions.
Proactively addressing threats.
And while I recognize the inherent environmental footprint of using AI, case studies like this offer a glimmer of hope in offsetting some of the negative effects of technology on the environment.
